Red Dye You Are EVIL!

This past week I finished reading, "Is This Your Child?" by Doris Rapp, M.D. Let me just say that this book was a huge eye opener on a lot of things that trigger Rockstar on certain occasions( when red dye is present) to experience difficulties with expressing himself without becoming upset. Mind you this isn't just a tantrum or his age, as I know my son and knew something just wasn't sitting right in the pit of my stomach. So, I investigated more, eliminated a few factors, and now realize what did not make him feel well. It took us five days to see the results of eliminating this key ingredient.

We have sat down with him and have talked to him a bit more about his eating options. As we like to have a free loving, thinking, and eating lifestyle here I also desire that my children feel well and express themselves throughout the day. He totally understood what we told him and even asked on specific foods. He caught on quickly on things that probably aren't the best choice and he was happy to say he was on board with this. I told him also that this will go for all of us in the household, as if it is not good for him to have then we really will not have it either. It is nice to be a team and a family.

My son adores gum. He will chew it constantly throughout the day that it was purchased and will finish the package in the same day. Last night he wanted to grab some more at the store. Once at the store we quickly realized that all of his favorite chewing gums had red and yellow dye( we also are avoiding yellow dye). Rockstar was totally cool with the information about it having red dye and he replied with a sweet suggestion of something else he could have.

More about the book...
This book is for parents that have children who, " are complaining, cranky, slow learners, aggressive, hyperactive, unwell, or depressed." If your child shows signs of rubbing their nose upward, eye circles, red ears, red cheeks, eye wrinkles, aggression, lack of alertness, and not limited to mottled tongue then it maybe from an unrecognized food allergy that can be worked out with an elimination diet.

I really enjoyed how in each age range and allergy the book would share a story about a family with that allergy and struggles that were unrecognized, the study, and how it was discovered what made the child unwell.

Rockstar is a very passionate, animated and intelligent dude. I often noticed around holidays, parties, play-dates and special occasions where he would have difficulties expressing himself so it would end up with him yelling and crying. All things we would be left confused to how this came to be. After reading this book it was apparent that we needed to look into this more.

I am a happy momma and today is a brand new day! I feel so empowered today.

Much love,
Nush

A Story Told By Rockstar

The other day Rockstar told me that he really wanted to write a story. He is always telling us stories and writing them through pictures. This time he wanted my help, so I felt honored. Grabbed a pencil and paper and was his secretary.

Exactly from his mouth, enjoy!

A Really Big Bird and The Seven Seas

Once upon a time there was a big bird named Juaned. He went on a really big adventure to the seven seas. And then after the seven seas he went to his home, and then he asked his mom to go on the adventure with him.

Then he went to the scariest castle in the whole world. Juaned met a ghost. They were scary. Then, he went to a heart place and then he needed to go to an eyeball place. There were a lot of eyeballs there. There was a superhero there to save Juaned.

The end

The lesson here is really to let your kids express themselves. This time it was with writing.

THE WINNER IS DINA and Congratulations! Please contact me at myrockinkids@gmail.com with your snail mail addy:)

I adore crocheting. It's totally something I like to do to get away from the daily hustle of being a mom, wife, and friend. I can sit and reflect on my day by myself or with friends over some yummy coffee. I especially love the end result of wearing my scarf, gloves, hat or even.... an Amigurumi doll!

What's Amigurumi?
Amigurumi (編みぐるみ, lit. knitted stuffed toy) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures.- Wikipedia

For those who do not crochet and would love to learn I suggest you learn from a fellow friend who knows how to. That is how I learned the basic techniques and continuing learning through my crocheting friends. Plus, these dolls are so adorable, who wouldn't want to learn how to make these.

This giveaway is will close next Friday, December 18 at noon.

Old Friends Creating New Friends

I love how life kind of has different ways of being new and fresh. One of those is how my boys hit it off with an old friend of mine. Yesterday we had a great play date filled with homemade pizza, laughter( lots and lots of it) and love. The mother of my boys new friend, is a childhood friend. We went to middle school, Jr. high, high school, and were college roommates. She moved a few hours away for a few years and now lives about 20 minutes away, which I think is pretty grand. Anyways, I find it so cool that now my boys are becoming friends with her one year old son. Way to keep this cool thing called life fun and fresh, huh?

I adore watching Rockstar and Superbaby play with younger kids. They are so sweet and are in awe that there is someone in their world smaller than them, but can walk, talk, and play just like they do.

Here's to great play dates, friendships, and laughter! Life is wonderful!

Much love,
Nush

P.S Keep your eyes peeled on Friday for another great giveaway!!

What Have you Accomplished?

With the holiday season here it often stirs a lot of focus on what we what to achieve this coming year. Often placing a damper on your mood and thoughts of what a procrastinator you were this year. I know the past years I always fret about another year that I did not do... then I saw on one of my Facebook friends( got to love Facebook) status update really put a beautiful spin on the whole end of year prospective.

"What have you accomplished this year that you are proud of?" (folks its all about positive thinking, right?)

Instead of focusing on all of those sodas you drank( this one's for me) and what you did not do, start by focusing on what you acheived and are proud of. Think outside of the box for sure.

*I am happy that we really grew as a family this past year.
*I have accomplished finding my own mommy time.
* I am proud that I am devoted to getting my body back in gear at the gym. *I started pouring a lot more of myself into this blog. Knowing that my household was learning and growing and wanted to let the Internet world know.

I want to hear what YOU accomplished this year and are proud of.

Much love,
Nush
